Fourth Coronavirus Wave Returns to Israel

in Health & Science

Coronavirus numbers are over 6,000 affected, the highest in six months. As fear of a fourth national lockdown takes hold, the government is tightening public freedoms once again, especially given the upcoming Jewish holiday season, and the school year set to start on September 1.

The current coronavirus czar Salman Zarka has called on everyone over 60 to receive a third “booster” shot, as against the Delta variant, the current vaccination is found to be only 64% effective. As of August 8, the government has chosen to reinforce the Green Passport rules, which only limits the freedoms of the one million citizens who remain unvaccinated.

Students will be greatly impacted once they return if the new plan is enforced, which includes the possibility to do daily testing if someone in the class is found positive. The airport has also laid new restrictions, where everyone who enters Israel will need to be quarantined for at least 7 days and have at least two negative PCR tests. As of this writing, only 10 countries are excluded from the list.

As of Wednesday evening, there are over 30,000 active COVID cases, over 600 people are hospitalized, with 360 in serious condition.
