A recent study shows that the number of Christians in Israel has increased by 1.4% in 2020, who make up a total of 1.9% of Israel’s population. The Central Bureau of Statistics report also states that 84% of Christians are satisfied living in Israel, 24% of which are very satisfied.
Most Christians live in Nazareth, Haifa, and Jerusalem, and about 76.7% are Arab Christians, which make up about 7% of the Arab population of Israel. The study highlights that Arab Christian women have some of the highest education rates in the country with 53.1% getting a bachelor’s degree after high school, compared to 47.5% of the Hebrew school system and 34% of the Arab school system.
Despite the increase in numbers, the report follows a contradiction from Christian leaders who claim there is an “aim is to free the Old City of Jerusalem from its Christian presence, even the Christian quarter,” says Fr. Franceso Patton, the Catholic Church’s Custos of the Holy Land and guardian of the Christian holy places in the Holy Land, believes that Christians are being driven out.
