Israel finally has a spot on the Executive Committee in the World Health Organization after twenty-one years with no representation. In a recent election which took place in Budapest, Professor Itamar Grotto, Deputy Director of Israel’s Health Ministry, was elected to the committee to represent Israel and its advancements and endeavors in the medical field.
The World Health Organization, or WHO, is responsible for directing international health initiatives within the system of the United Nations, and to work with various establishments towards combatting widespread, infectious diseases. They work with over 150 countries worldwide with the goal of building a “better, healthier future for people all over the world,” reads their website.
Israel leads in global medical research, advancements, and technology. With Grotto’s newfound representation on the WHO Executive Board, the election, voted on by the current members of the organization, is the first step in advancing health worldwide.
