With recent FDA approval, Israel is preparing the next round of vaccinations for 12-15-year-olds. The Pfizer shot was tested on 2,000 volunteers in their early teens in the United States, with strong results. No COVID-19 cases were detected after the full vaccination, while side effects were similar to adult side effects, including fever, chills, aches, and painful arms. The report also showed that higher levels of antibodies developed than in previous studies.
Israel’s Ministry of Health is in talks with local healthcare organizations to administer the next vaccination campaign for children ages 12-15. Chezy Levy, Director-General of Health, is also meeting with health representatives, pediatricians, and other relevant organizations to prepare the next phase of the vaccination drive.
Israel has already been said to have purchased millions of shots in preparation for the campaign. All inoculations for teens will be the Pfizer BioNTECH shot, and will be given in two separate doses.
So far, Israel has administered over 5 million full vaccines to citizens aged 16 and up. Around 400,000 have only had the first shot so far.
